Thinking about painting the roof on my Dakota. Question, what grit(s) of sandpaper would be good for preparing the surface? Don't plan on sanding until bare metal.

80 grit is going to rough will put deep scratches in the metal, just need to scratch it enough to get paint to hold, or use a some type of media blaster outside and blast it all off to bare metal.
