My 95 gmc z71 come out with 3.42 gears, my rear ring and pinion gear busted coming home one day. I took cover off and it has 3.73 gears in it. How can I tell if the previous owner changed front gears as well before I order new gears for the rear.

There is a way to count the teeth on each do a little math and tells you the gear ratio but that was way way back in the school days. Might look up google and see what you can find.

Donny I would check to see if the front is 3.42 first because if it's 3.73 or if the changed out the whole front axle your going to have to redo your work look on You Tube how to check what you have.

Another thing have you ever ran the truck on 4X4??
