friend of mine has a 96 f 150 with 300 6 cylinder. said it just died on him other day. was running perfect then just quit. didn't spit or sput or act like ran out of fuel. acted like turned key off. he said he checked for spark and has none. replaced coil and no better. i gave him my code reader to check codes, if any. i told him to pull dist cap and verify shaft is spinning while cranking.

    any other ideas?

    Have the ignition module check.

Check the engine grounds to make sure none are loose from vibration.
When he turns the key, is there power to the instrument cluster gauges?

he said everything seems normal aside from not having spark. i did tell him to swap the ignition module. apparently there is an abandoned donor truck nearby that has same motor so he swiped coil to try that. when that didn't work he ohmed both coils and both were in spec, so problem not coils. i couldn't remember if ignition module was in distributor or not, but my guess is a bad ignition module.

    thanks for replies

My 94 chevy ignition module quit and did just what you said, like you reached up and shut the key off.

i am thinking we have it narrowed down to one of two things. ign module or a sensor under distributor. i am not sure if it a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor.
