    I have a 1995 gmc c1500 2wd 4.3 lt v6 and i am switching out the automatic transmisssion
(due to failure) from what i heard i have the 4l60e tranny.

I recently aquired a transmisssion from a buddy who rolled his truck
it is a 1994 gmc 2wd also a 4l60e , will this tranny go into my truck ?
They both are 4l60's but what is needed to get this to go into my truck and mods ?
Has anyone done this before ?

yes i dont see why they wouldnt interchange. you might have to change the tail section if they are not the same length.

I have a 95 4L60-E. Unless the clutch packs are gone or the pump the sunshell. I would first scan it. Most the time its solenoid or two. I just quickly checked my ATSG manual and it's not the same. The 94 4l60-e has one less solenoid. You may have to reuse the the 95 valve body and the wiring harness. Here's a manual.http://www.gmtruckhq.com/DL/4l60.zip

From what I have read the 95 is a one yr transmission no direct interchange.

I thought that the computer hookups or something of that nature were on the right side on the 1995 4L60E's and the 1994 ones were on the left. There was something else too I thought that was backwards.

It doesn't have a check engine light on and I was driving it and it lost 3rd and 4th gear up a hill and the truck was high idling after this

    NO a 95 Transmission will NOT work in a 94 nor Will a 94 Transmission work in a 95.

95 was the start of the pwm (pulse width modulation) the parts that are affected are.
    1. Solenoids
    2. Valve body
    3. Pump
    4. computer tuning was also changed

Your computer is tuned for PWM and you will have to use a 95 PWM transmission,
    93-94 interchange
95 is a stand alone year
    96-98 interchange
    99+ interchange

Now the internal parts from the 94 will Interchange EXCEPT the valve body & gaskets, Pump, Solenoids, If your just wanting to Patch the Transmission you could switch the input drums to get your 3rd and 4th back. But honestly I would Rebuild YOUR Transmission,

I concur. A 94 will only interchange with a 93. The 95 is on its own. You can ONLY put a 95 model 4L60E in your 95 truck.

1995 chevy pickup / trans interchange

I have a 1995 chevy truck and the auto tranny went out on it ( lost 3rd and 4th up a hill )and i recently aquired a 1994 automatic out of the same style 2wd truck , ive been told that that it wont work , but i want someone who has made it work to come forward and give me a hand , my theory is cant be that bad people have swapped crazier stuff
