    Does any one know if a programmer off a 90's silverado will work on my 88
    will the computers interchange
    who to know what engine will work on my computer
    thank you

    I am sure it will work, if the controller You are installing has the same transmission parameters as Your vehicle.
    If Yours has an automatic, then You, I think, need a controller from an automatic pickup.
    I have two setting here, one for a manual trans and another from an automatic, they have two different P/Ns on them, both from 1990 K1500s

    How do you know what engines will work with stock ECM

    GM, taken from vehicles that were running but went to the scrap, no, none are for sale, I have a couple of conversions I am going to be doing Myself. I will need all the wiring harnesses and sensors I can git My hands on. :no: :help: :rofl:

    Will work both have a non electrical controlled transmission 700r4 ..from 87 too 92 will work..only difference a 87 used two oil sensors ..first year of injection.
    One for the fuel pump circuit..one for the gauge/light. I pretty sure the number on the ecm will be 1227747..might google to be most sure.

    I'd say it's stopped up and needs replacing. A lean fuel condition will cause the exhaust to get hot also, but the condition will usually cause the manifolds to glow. Also if it were running that lean, you would get some backfiring through the TB.
