    Can anyone tell me the type of alternator in a 1988 F150 V8 5.0? Internal? External? Amps?

    Never heard of a external or internal alternator. Amps depends most common all around is about 85 to 100. Can go to like autozone website input your truck and see what they have they list what amps they are rated at.

    They had both types that year. So you will have to pop the hood and look for a regulator.

    All older vehicles had external regulators. Kenny I did not know this about the furds.Figured furd would done away with external?
