I too am suspecting a bad ground.
Also check the grounding strap that is right behind the cylinder head on the right hand side.

well 88 is a change over year make sure you have the correct waterpump, and make sure the lower hose isn't collapsing
He is saying he flushed the engine and rad twice, replace the water pump, T-stat and fan clutch.
Need more info then just changed...
I think he is saying its overheating........
Change the rad and hoses. Do you have the right water pump?
As DR wrote it might be the fuel pump even new ones come out bad check if fuel is reaching the carb/tbi unit
Is this engine a fuel inject, TBI or is it a carburetor ?
The 87s in the S10 was a kind of a changeover year.
If you can prime the carb with gas and it runs need to look at fuel, its lost it somewhere either float sticking shut, or bad fuel line...
